5 Energy Efficiency Incentives To Save You Money

 In Energy Efficiency

Did you know there are available energy efficiency incentives that can save you money on your energy bill? Plus, you’ll be doing your part to help the environment!

Whether you’re upgrading your home comfort system or simply switching out an old appliance, take advantage of the available opportunities for energy and money savings.

Here is our roundup of the top 5 incentive programs to start your journey towards greater energy efficiency:

1. The Government of Canada’s Energy Savings Rebate Program (Now Closed)

The Energy Savings Rebate Program helps Ontarians reduce their energy consumption and save money by switching to eligible energy efficient products.

Participants can save 25% instantly on ENERGY STAR® Certified Eligible Products, such as tankless condensing water heaters, ductless mini split indoor units (air source heat pump), air purifiers, and smart thermostats. The deadline is March 22nd, 2021.

2. Save On Energy — Energy Affordability Program

The Energy Affordability Program allows income-eligible Ontario residents to lower their monthly electricity costs and increase their home comfort.

Some applicants may qualify for a free home energy assessment conducted by a trained energy professional. The assessment may result in free energy-efficient upgrades, such as professionally-installed insulation, draft-proofing, and new appliances.

Other participants may qualify for free energy saving kits. These are customized to meet their energy needs and could include energy-saving LED lighting, timers, faucet aerators, and/or a clothes drying line.

3. CMHC Green Home Program

The Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) is offering a premium refund of up to 25% to borrowers who either buy, build, or renovate their home for energy efficiency using CMHC-insured financing.

As with most government programs, an energy audit must be completed by a Registered Energy Advisor in order to qualify. The amount of the refund is determined by the level of energy efficiency achieved.
