If you rent an apartment or home, here’s what you can do to make sure you’re ready for winter.

1. Keep doors closed to rooms or closets that don’t need to be open to save on heating
2. Seal off gaps in the bottom of your doors or windows with a door draft stopper
3. Use thick curtains
4. Make sure to keep heat sources unblocked, whether you have heat vents or radiators
5. Caulk drafty windows
6. If you have hardwood floors, consider covering some of them with rugs
